Gary Aspden and his carefully chosen team of adidas archivists have brought us some fantastic ZX releases since SPEZIAL’s inception, but their latest work is arguably their best yet. Having discovered an original pair of women’s-exclusive ZX 452 in Buenos Aires in 2013, Gary has decided to revive this long-forgotten ZX gem — and this time the big-footed among us will have a chance to get in on the action as well.
The ZX 452 SPZL has been created by carefully examining both the original Argentinean and Yugoslavian versions of the ZX 452 and poaching the best bits of the two. The new reproduction features the full Three Stripes of the Yugoslavian version, along with a few other subtle upper tweaks for a more masculine appearance.
However, not all of the ZX 452’s femininity has been lost! Women’s trainers in the mid-80s were highly prized for their adventurous colourways, and this SPEZIAL release sticks to that winning formula. It features a largely neutral upper of tonal grey suedes and mesh, finished with striking pink Stripes and reflective toe box hits.
The adidas ZX 452 SPZL will release as part of drop two of the adidas SPEZIAL ‘Acid Winter’ FW18 Collection, slated for release on September 21 through select top-tier adidas stockists.
