When you're trying to court someone, you'll typically send a little something to let them know you're thinking of them: flowers, a box of chocolates, a dirty text etc. Whatever you do, the unspoken rule of courtship is 'don't come off as desperate.' But adidas have never been one to follow the rules. In their attempt to sign young Bucks player Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Three Stripes presented the small forward with a van which was, quite literally, filled to the brim with adidas shoes.
It may seem like a pretty intense gesture, but adidas have to move quickly if they wish to lock down a sneaker deal with the Milwaukee player. Antetokounmpo is currently considered the league's most in-demand sneaker free agent. At 22 years of age, he's one of the NBA's most promising talents: just last season, he became the first player in the league's history to rank in the top 20 in regular season points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. And when it comes to dunks, Antetokounmpo's highlight reel is certainly one of the more exciting ones we're seeing right now. Judging by his current performance, he's going to be a very valuable long-term asset for any sneaker company.
Antetokounmpo has just finished up his rookie sneaker contract with Nike, and while the Swoosh reportedly want him back, other brands like Under Armour and adidas are coming out of the woodwork to woo the player. Giannis seemed pretty happy with adidas' grand gesture, as you'll see in the video below; however, we can't read too much into his reaction – what 22 year old wouldn't be thrilled to receive a van teeming with adidas kicks?
