It’s hard to dispute: GORE-TEX is the fabric du jour when it comes to making special sneakers. Sometimes, it’s used for the sake of using it, but more often than not, it serves a practical purpose for the shoe. For example, this upcoming Terrex Free Hiker GTX from adidas actually benefits from having the water-resistant yet breathable membrane.
It’s a beefy, off-road sneaker with a bootmaking ethos. The heightened ankle, reinforced overlays, and rippled outsole are indicative of classic rugged construction, but stretchy knit bootie fittings and the BOOST midsole bring it into lightweight, comfortable modernity.
And who could forget the GORE-TEX membrane to help keep your feet dry? The logo is printed on the toebox as a reminder. Three colourways are coming to adidas come September 2.
