2018's 'Black History Month' Pack Uses Cymatics to Capture Sound Waves

Date: January 15 2018

Nike are going big for 2018’s Black History Month. The BHM pack's Air Jordan 1 appeared last week, the first of a nine-strong collection commemorating historic sporting achievements of African Americans and moments of seismic social change.

Athletic prowess is acknowledged by models such as the Air VaporMax — printed with the date Gail Devers set a still-standing record at 1993's International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) 100m event — while a pair of KD 10s honour Durant’s 2014 MVP speech.

Martin Luther King’s legendary speeches are also referenced. I Have a Dream soundbites have been recreated using a cymatic camera 'to capture photos of the sound waves as those sounds passed through water' and printed on special hangtags.

The pack's performance models will hit the basketball court between 11 and 15, with products available from NDC on February 1.
