Microsoft's Xbox franchise is turning 20 this year, which is a bit of news that probably makes millennials feel ancient. To celebrate this milestone, Xbox have teamed up with adidas for a glowing green and black take on the Forum Tech BOOST (a modernised Forum Low) that would surely make Halo's Master Chief proud.

When it first hit the market in 2001, the original Xbox was associated with a glowing neon green tone. Over the years, the green has softened into a more kelly/forest green shade, but as this Forum was specifically made for the series' anniversary it reverts to the original green hue – splashing it across the upper's overlays and appearing on the icy see-through midsole. Black, the OG Xbox's secondary colour, makes its presence felt on the quarter panels and mesh toe box.

Of course, there's special branding as well, namely a classic Xbox logo on each shoe's tongue, and a hit on the lateral heel that nods to the year the first Xbox was produced, as well as the company's Seattle headquarters. 'Play More' appears on the lace tips, and a full-length BOOST cushioning setup, visible through the midsole, supplies a dash of comfort.

It's intriguing to see Xbox working with adidas on its anniversary celebration, as in years past the brand has partnered closely with both Nike and Jordan Brand on everything from custom consoles to Air Jordan 1 Mids, and special Air Force 1s created by Odell Beckham Jr. Who knows? Maybe adidas and Nike (who also produces collaborative footwear with PlayStation) will really play a part in the console wars of the 2020s.

The Xbox x adidas Forum Tech BOOST is set to release on October 19, and will be priced at $180. Xbox will also be releasing more collaborative products as part of its 'Always Played In. Never Played Out' initiative over the remainder of the year.
