WTAPS and Vans Reprise Crossbones ColabRelease: 26 September 2020
Japanese streetwear label WTAPS has been collaborating with Vans since 2001, which began with a Sk8-Hi covered in the now-distinct crossbones motif. This graphic pattern has been revisited on subsequent colabs and different models to great effect, and now the skeletal style is back on their latest joint effort.
Using the Sk8-Hi and Era once again, the switch up occurs this time with the colour choices by using shades of bright orange and stark black. Like previous WTAPS colabs, the Vans styles are elevated with sturdy suede that looks as good box-fresh as it does skated-in. Extra tall foxing backs up the OG skate cred. WTVUA (which stands for WTAPS Visual Up Armoured) embroidery on the heel counter affirms the collaboration – if the copious crossbones didn’t already make things obvious. In fact, the black pair is eerily similar to that 2001 debut, sans the white laces and foxing.
With four pairs to choose from, you’ll have to spread your luck across raffling retailers like END. come September 26.
