Willy Chavarria Unveils Oaxaca Slip-On with adidas in Puerto Rico

Mexican-American fashion designer has unveiled his latest silhouette with – the Chavarria Oaxaca Slip-On – during a special panel event at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico.

The reveal was part of a broader adidas Originals celebration, which also Chavarria was joined on stage by adidas Archival Specialist Sandra Trapp, Originals Design Director Rafael Mayorga, and Director of Storytelling Valentina Benitez Castellanos, as they discussed the intersection of heritage, culture, and design.

Taking cues from the classic Mexican huarache sandal, the Oaxaca is a tribute to Chicano street style and Chavarria’s own cultural roots. The slip-on silhouette features a smooth leather upper and exaggerated sneaker sole, fusing traditional design with modern design nous.

‘The huarache has always been a symbol of heritage and identity,’ Chavarria said. ‘I wanted to honour that legacy, but push it forward.’
