First observed on the runway during , the Superstar Hi colab between and has now received its official close-up.
The Wales Bonner SS25 collection presented a homage to Trinidadian artist and textile designer Althea McNish, and included sightings of both the in its brown colourway, and the sequin-encrusted adidas Original Karintha kicks. While the latter were certainly flashy, the former got necks swivelling with a subtle, textural new take on the vintage Superstar silhouette (first introduced in the late 1960s as a pro basketball shoe).
The single-panel upper and tongue comprise super-soft suede, and finish is kept relatively undisrupted by branding – golden 'adidas' and 'Wales Bonner' logos are stamped cleanly on each tongue, with the design house's text repeated on the lateral heel. But where are the Three Stripes? They're there, alright – in the form of finely-rendered, oblique punctures down both the lateral and medial sides. Very clever, very canny.
The yet-to-be-named colourways are a misty grey (which come with bright white laces), and cosy brown (with complementary brown laces), and both sport the iconic adidas shell toe in a warm off-white which extends to the outsole.
