Wake Up to the New Balance 990v5 ‘Sunrise’
Despite their simultaneous self-appointed and public perception as grey sneaker specialists, definitely aren’t afraid of a little colour. This has been proven time and time again on both their inline releases and collaborative efforts. The latest exhibit of unbridled pigmentation joins their GR assortment in the form of the ‘Sunrise’.
Those who are into NB will immediately recognise that this was used on the previous generation 990v4. Same same, but actually quite different when it comes down to the nitty gritty. As the panelling on the v5 is a little different, the arrangement of tonal suede and mesh is broken up more by the additional hardware on the rear quarter and underlays. Where the v4’s accents went for a lighter shade of pink, this version nods back to its origins with some minimal grey hits.
New Balance seem aware that this release is unlikely to clock many (if any) track miles, so the overall hi-vis colour and extremely dust-magnetic materials won’t be an issue for street use. Either way, that new gen ENCAP sole and ergonomic fit means they’ll readily dash in a flash.
