Vans Set Up in LA to Debut the Premium Old Skool ‘Music Collection’
No other brand is as entrenched in the SoCal lifestyle quite like , and this past week they set up in their home city of LA to celebrate their iconic Old Skool via an exhibition and special releases. Sneaker Freaker were on the ground for the event, and at the centre of it all was the ‘Music Collection’, which boasted colourways from three eras of musical history all on the fresh-faced Premium Old Skool model.
The ‘Music Collection’ was at the centre of the Vans exhibition, which looked back to three distinct eras of Vans' musical history. The first part of the capsule represented the original colourways that were adopted by the punk and hardcore scenes of the 70s and 80s via leopard print patterns, while the second era pays homage to the Vans Warped Tour of the 90s and aughts, boasting classic checkerboard and flame details. Finally, the third batch represents the underground hip hop scenes of the 2010s, who typically chose brightly coloured iterations with gum soles.
While this musical heritage was a strong focus, Vans brought the concept into the present by putting the colourways onto the Premium Old Skool model. A new take on the 1977 classic, this high-end edition hosts enhanced cushioning thanks to a 30 per cent bio-based Sola Foam ADC insole, improved fit and archival design details. Cosmetic changes are also aplenty, with glossy sidewalls, higher foxing tape and historical branding.
Vans are set to launch the Premium Old Skool collection over the coming months. You can cop the 70s and 80s-inspired ‘Punk Capsule’ on February 6, the 90s to 2000s ‘Warped Tour Capsule’ on March 6, and the 2010s ‘Hip Hop Capsule’ on April 10!
