The Vans Checkerboard Slip-On Returns to Ridgemont High

Even though the inimitable Checkerboard had been kicking around since the late 70s, it was catapulted into pop culture history on the feet of Sean Penn’s Jeff Spicoli in 1982’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Now, Vans are throwing back to the cult film, releasing a Slip-On built to ’82 specs through their Anaheim Factory Collection. The classic checks are joined by exaggerated foxing and Fast Times branding wrapped around the midsole. Thankfully, the SoCal stalwarts have afforded us one modern comfort: an UltraCush-infused footbed.
