Vans Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Metallica’s ‘The Black Album’ with a Slip-On and Sk8-HiRelease: 25 July 2021
Vans and the legendary Metallica have teamed up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band’s self-titled album, commonly referred to as The Black Album. Finessing a limited-edition Sk8-Hi and Classic Slip-On, the Californian skate label continue their unrelenting fandom, with this project their fourth commemorative collection honouring the heavy metal icons.
Inspired by the band’s never-ending pursuit of going faster, louder and ‘Off The Wall’, this Vans x Metallica pack features artwork inspired by long-time Metallica artist Pushead, showcasing enigmatic facing skulls across the quarter panels of the Sk8-Hi, as well as the opposing sides of each Classic Slip-On. Additionally, there’s a blue shatter design and silver Metallica branding around the sidewall of the Sk8-Hi, and on the upper of the Slip-On. To cap things off, Metallica is printed on the heel stay, replacing the traditional Vans branding.
Propelling Metallica into superstardom, 1991’s The Black Album is the band’s highest-selling LP, and features iconic tracks such as ‘Enter Sandman’, ‘Sad But True’, ‘Nothing Else Matters’, and ‘The Unforgiven’.
