A proven piece of hardware for running purists, the sneaker needs no introduction for ASICS enthusiasts and long-distance athletes alike.
The original GEL-Kayano from 1993 was designed by Toshikazu Kayano, and fans adored the shoe’s fusion of leather and mesh with ASICs patented GEL technology. The shoe became a backbone for ASICS and their long-distance line. The silhouette's 2008 reinvigoration was the first model not designed by Toshikazu. The ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 lived up to its creator's reputation, while forging itself a new history, taking out the ‘Runner’s World’ magazine’s International Editor’s Choice award.
A stalwart of the ASICS brand, the design is based on the ‘flash’ of a runner’s foot striking the ground with their heel and kicking off with their toes. The shoe provides comfort and grace for both long and short distance athleticism, courtesy of a unique shear deformation gel.
For this iteration, exterior design duties have been handled by third party, Undermycar. The South Korean brand on the rise have imbued the 2000s silhouette with a techno futurist aesthetic in glossy silver, navy and olive. Each pair comes with a unique neo-noir finishing touch, with a metal plate featuring the Undermycar and atmos logos to be fastened to the upper eyelet.
The Undermycar x atmos x ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 is available at select stores from November 23 and will retail at $150.
