In November 1985, young MJ injured his foot, which led to his playing in only 18 games over the 85-86 season. Upon his return to the court – against the advice of the team’s medical staff – MJ could be seen rocking a specially modified version of the Air Jordan 1, with extra straps and ankle support to keep his feet locked down.
The auction house had initially supposed the shoes would sell for around $20,000, but with an end date of November 19 and a current bid just shy of the 20k mark, it’s likely that they could fetch well above the expected price.
