After Snow Peak and New Balance Tokyo Design Studio linked up again for an exclusive version of the Niobium Concept 2 convertible sandal, there will be some new inline colourways joining the fray. Even without the lustre of a collaborative partner, TDS ensure their GR efforts are still excellent.

The Niobium Concept 2 is a trail-inspired model that carries the distinction of being able to switch between sandal and mule mode by way of a removable ankle strap. On screen that may sound rather rudimentary, but the design is more practical than it appears. Dual Fidlock-style midfoot straps lock and loosen the foot in both sandal and mule configurations, which are both built around a mesh upper that covers all but the heel. Underfoot, the Niobium Concept 2 borrows Fresh Foam midsoles from NB’s legit trail running Hierro series. This connects to a Vibram rubber outsole for on- and off-road traction.

These two new colourways of the Niobium Concept 2 draw from the natural habitats of water and dirt trails that they’ll likely be trudging through. Each are finished with patterned woven straps and speckled outsoles. The New Balance Tokyo Design Studio Niobium Concept 2s will release direct from NB on July 9.
