Tone Things Down in the ASICS GEL-Lyte III ‘Camel Beige’
The is a cornerstone of retro running assortment. In its 30-plus-year history, the unique split-tongued model has been a conduit for all sorts of crazy colourways and tamer themes. This new women’s Birch/Camel Beige edition is an example of the latter, reinforcing the idea that the GL3 perhaps works better in its more straightforward executions.
In the decades that have passed since its debut, the GL3 has embraced its position as a statesman of the sneaker game in its post-performance life. No longer is it the first choice for budding runners looking to tap out a quick 5K. Instead, it’s now a popular template for casual-leaning materials like suede and mesh here. ASICS use autumnal tan shades of ‘Birch’ for the majority of the upper, and contrast it with darker ‘Camel Beige’ Tiger Stripes and matching shoelaces. Meanwhile, the distinct split tongue keeps it OG in nylon. A third colour, which is unaccounted for in the official colourway name, appears on the outsole and heel tab in the form of pink. It all sits on top of ASICS’ GEL cushioning midsole that is still supremely comfortable to this day.
