Tomo Koizumi Gets His Own Nike Air Superfly

Japan's Tomo Koizumi is one of world’s most outré and audacious couture designers, having made his name thanks to flamboyant signature looks built with voluminous ruffles of Japanese polyester. Today, the designer has announced he has partnered with to drop a collaborative .
‘The Nike Air Superfly is a beautiful canvas for both artistic and athletic expression,’ Koizumi said on the collaboration. ‘My vision was to create a distinctive, versatile silhouette that merges running-inspired design, personalisation, and evocative materials and colours to allow the shoe to take on different personalities, depending on how women want to style it that day.’
Nike’s Air Superfly is one of the latest models reintroduced for women, but has received a wide and warm welcome from the broader sneakersphere thanks to its streamlined, low-profile silhouette. For this particular release, Koizumi has gone full vibrant, opting for an iridescent leather covering the upper and a rainbow outsole. Those who cop will also receive three interchangeable Swooshes, two of which are built using Koizumi’s signature ruffles.
For the campaign, Koizumi and Nike enlisted premier athletes – Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 2024 Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell, and Arie Aoki, an up-and-coming sprinter from Japan – to bring the collaborative Superfly to life.
‘Athletes like Shelly-Ann redefine what it means to be unapologetically stylish and feminine while also being fiercely strong and performing at the highest level,’ said Koizumi. ‘It inspires me to see how they can both push their athletic limits and express themselves through fashion, breaking boundaries in sport and self-expression.’
The Tomo Koizumi x Nike Air Superfly will release on September 19 at Dover Street Market’s Ginza space and select stockists in Japan. A global SNKRS drop will then take place on September 20.
