Cosmic designer Tom Sachs has been a stalwart of the NYC art scene for years. Known predominantly for his sculptural nous, Sachs has also been taking sneaker culture to the stars with his neck-cranking Nike Mars Yard series, the NikeCraft partnership celebrating its 10 year anniversary in 2022.

The fourth iteration of their interstellar NikeCraft lineup, Tom Sachs and Nike have now officially revealed their General Purpose Shoe for 2022, the release date scheduled for June. Conceived to function in ‘every possible scenario’, the all-purpose silhouette harkens back to the original design blueprints of a sneaker – to serve as a tool.

‘I got involved with Nike in the beginning because we wanted to make a sculpture that everyone could wear. It’s a tool for everyday life; it's democratic,’ says Sachs.

Featuring a distinct perky toe, the Killshot-adjacent design is manufactured with a three-piece moulded cup sole, complete with microfibre collars and breathable knit.

‘It took me years to best advantage the superpowers of scale and to deliver value while still reflecting the standards of my studio. A great collaboration is something that no partner could do without the other, and NikeCraft has always been a 50/50 collaboration.’ says Sachs.

Look for the Tom Sachs x NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe to release on June 10 at select retailers and Nike.com. The retail price tag is set at $110.
