Images have emerged of a  Nike  Air Max 97 that’s rocking a rainbow on its pull tabs, adding some colour to a mostly white rendition. The clean white upper is accented by hits of navy and red on the side Swooshes and outsoles, but the real standouts are the rainbow strips popping out from the tops of the tongues, and all the way down the heels. They’re not quite the traditional rainbow colours, but they’re a neat addition all the same.

Deep within the annals of sneaker lore, it’s often said that the Air Max 97 was inspired by a Japanese bullet train – hence the  ‘Silver Bullet’ nickname given to the OG colourway. However, the mind behind the AM97, Christian Tresser, has previously explained that the layered upper was actually inspired by ripples of water in a pond. And that signature rippled upper has released in a steady stream of colourways ever since, including a recent  ‘South Beach’ scheme, and a  coral cork edition.

Pairs of this rainbow-blessed Air Max 97 are expected to hit Nike and selected Swoosh stockists very soon.
