Colourway: Sisterhood
Images have emerged of a Nike Air Max 97 that celebrates sisterhood, the neat tonal scheme accented with key callouts to friendship. Leveraging the AM97’s signature layered upper, the colourway starts with a strong red/orange hue at the top before gradually fading to a shade of cashmere towards the bottom of the shoe. An icy outsole site below the usual visible Air window along the midsole, while a friendship pendant–style graphic appears on the insoles and hang tag to drive home the theme.
In the well-thumbed pages of sneaker mythology, the Air Max 97 design is often cited as receiving inspiration from a Japanese bullet train – hence the ‘Silver Bullet’ nickname given to the OG colourway. But the mind behind the AM97, Christian Tresser, has previously explained that the layered upper was actually inspired by ripples of water in a pond. And that instantly-recognisable rippled upper has released in a steady stream of colourways ever since, including a recent pastel combo, and a tonal green edition.
Pairs of the Air Max 97 ‘Sisterhood’ are expected to hit Nike and selected Swoosh stockists very soon.
