Official images have emerged of an upcoming  Nike  Air Max 97 colourway that seems to access the full pastel palette. Looking more like the kind of Swoosh-adorned silhouette that releases around Easter each year, this is a design for those who like to flash some colour – but just not too brightly.

Starting with a creamy and dark grey base, this AM97 splashes on pastel shades of orange, pink, purple and green, making full use of the model’s seemingly infinite colour-blocking possibilities.

According to sneaker mythology, the Air Max 97 was inspired by a Japanese bullet train – hence the ‘Silver Bullet’ nickname given to the OG colourway. However, the mind behind the AM97, Christian Tresser, has previously explained that the layered upper was actually inspired by ripples of water in a pond. And that signature rippled upper has released in a steady stream of colourways ever since, including a recent ‘South Beach’ scheme, and a coral cork edition.

Pairs of this pastel Air Max 97 are expected to hit Nike and selected Swoosh stockists very soon.
