When images of this silver and black Nike Air Max 1 were spotted a couple of weeks ago, its colourway and some of its details were rather cryptic. But now, new intel direct from the source has revealed this AM1 is a modern interpretation of its newfound urban context – as opposed to its sporting origins.

Reportedly a nod to the metallic trains that snake through most developed cityscapes via the sheened midfoot and heel panels, Nike back it up with asphalt black suede mudguards to reference the roads these AM1s will inevitably cross. White mesh toe boxes are a non-negotiatiable.

So far, things are fairly conventional, so Nike grit it up a bit with loosely trail-yearning colours of ‘Chutney’ tan and ‘Glacier Ice’ blue, and the big mesh tongue material has loose performance nods too. And on the topic of grit, a bit of urban art – some might call it graffiti – is sprayed onto the tongue label, joining a more scrawled handstyle overlapping the heel label. For a final splash of colour, hot red outsoles and Air units add a bit of pep to these steps.

Lo and behold, an intriguing colourway now has a plausible product story behind it. They’re available now from Nike.
