This Converse Chuck 70 Pulls the Fleece Over Your FeetRelease: 6 November 2020
Fleece is one of life’s guilty pleasures, so it’s truly blissful to discover Converse have just put it on their venerable Chuck 70. As an incredibly effective insulating material, these fuzzy foot fittings are just begging for a brush. And with all of the different textiles that have decorated the Chuck Taylor in its 100-year-plus existence, fleece remains one of the most visually intriguing options.
Converse are fully committed to the cause here, swapping out the Chuck 70’s typical heavyweight canvas uppers for the fleecy material. Because of the upper’s relatively delicate nature, twill ankle tape reinforces the rear seam, before being held together by the bonded rubber cupsole. Metal eyelets and arch vents prevent tearing, while the thick laces are extra durable.
However, the red and white candy cane striped lining and green and red accents seem to suggest these could be an auspicious sneaker release ahead of the silly season known as Christmas. Given Xmas seems to start right after Easter in some parts of the world (see those fruit mince pies lining supermarket shelves?), perhaps it’s not too crazy that these Noel kicks are already available from retailers like END. Clothing and BSTN. Get them for the nice people in your life; not the naughty ones who can’t keep their shoes clean!
