This Chocolate Brown New Balance 991 is for Sugar DaddiesRelease: 11 December 2020
New Balance have unashamedly embraced their ‘Dad Shoe’ status that was organically cultivated by functional runners such as the 991. Already previously preserved and wizened in shades of grey suede, the tones of tan and brown on this new edition can only further add a mature musk to the heritage jogger.
The 991 doesn’t see much action these days as a performance model. Instead, it’s become somewhat of a moodboard muse and unironically popular shoe for sneakerheads who don’t want to be lumped in with those other sneakerheads in their immature bright basketball shoes. So, a mix of cocoa, ganache, molasses, and other congealed brown sauces provide the palette on these 991s across a swatch book of tumbled leather, full grain, and suede uppers. Mesh tongues and perforated pigskin lining vent out any foot tang – the all-leather build can get quite warm.
Originally releasing in 2001, the 991 introduced visible ABZORB midsole inserts for superior cushioning, paired to multi-density foam midsoles that helped with stability. And the new Ndurance outsole compound added long-term durability. Almost 20 years on, this proven tech hasn’t changed at all on later 991s such as this one.
This new New Balance 991 – codename M991BTG – is out now from Warsaw Sneaker Store.
