In an industry where styles can come and go within a single season, six years must feel like an eternity. Upon its debut in very late 2015, the adidas NMD was the epicentre of a significant shakeup in the sneaker industry, as it was embraced by new-gen sneakerheads while converting even their most jaded predecessors. In 2021, the ripple effect of the NMD may not be as strong, but the Three Stripes are still able to come up with new ideas for their golden sneaker of the mid- to late-2010s.

The OG NMD was a simple structure of a one-piece mesh bootie fit upper joined to a BOOST midsole. This latest colourway begins with that proven formula, but there are some new features – some more obvious than the others. Starting with the visible mods, translucent panels have been welded onto the junction of the upper and midsole, wrapping around the toe bumper and ankle. According to adidas, the inspiration for this feature is the heat-transferred seam tape found on technical jackets. There are some extra strips of reflective paint flickered throughout the upper and midsole for visibility on an otherwise stealthy shoe. What’s less seen is the fact 20 per cent of the upper components are made using minimum 50 per cent recycled materials.

This new NMD is available now directly from adidas.
