The Waffle Racer Joins Nike’s Space Hippie Crew

It looks like the Waffle Racer is definitely set to join  Nike’s eco-friendly Space Hippie crew, with official images surfacing of a bright rendition that features the signature Crater foam. The Crater collection is growing by the day, as an array of prominent Swoosh silhouettes adopt the sustainability steez.

This Waffle Racer takes a more colourful approach than the potential rendition leaked back in May, dressing the historic model in a warm combo of pastel hues, before slapping the Space Hippie embellishment on the heels. So, there’s something old (the Waffle Racer design), something new (Crater), and something blue (the upper rocks ‘Midnight Navy’). But what’s been borrowed? Probably the waffle iron that Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman memorably ‘borrowed’ from his kitchen while experimenting with new tread patterns to improve grip on the University of Oregon athletics track where he coached his protégés.

Pairs have started popping up around the globe, while a Stateside release is expected to be imminent.
