The Todd Snyder x New Balance 992 ‘From Away’ Comes Out of Hiding
has revealed his next collaboration via his eponymous clothing label. The collaborative zeitgeist that is the continues its versatile reworking with this camo-dipped ‘From Away’ edition, which features a rustic brown palette inspired by a mod-conned cabin in the middle of the woods.
Most 992 colabs and GRs on the market have more or less used the OG configuration of suede and mesh, but Snyder explores the numerous material possibilities. That being said, suede is more or less a non-negotiable for the greatest NB colabs, so generous lashings of ‘Snuff Tan’ cover most of the overlay panels, complemented with tonal tanned leather sections. While camo is traditionally used to prevent detection, it’s definitely a focal point here – Snyder uses deadstock duck camo fabric and pairs it with hot ‘Energy Red’ accents to trap the eyes. With so much going on, there’s restraint in the crisp all-white midsole and outsole – a pairing not commonly seen.
As for the colab’s nickname, Snyder explains, ‘The idea for this sneaker grew out of a number of inspiration trips I had been taking to Maine... “From Away” comes from the fact that when you spend time in the state, you realise locals are Maine-ahs, and everyone else is From Away.’
