The Nike  Challenger OG has found a colourway to match its vintage aesthetic, dressing in ‘Dark Smoke Grey’ alongside a solid base of black and white. The understated vibe allows the silhouette’s design hallmarks to really shine through, with that clean midsole and Waffle outsole sparking plenty of memories of a bygone era.

Described by Beaverton as ‘nearly a 1-to-1 remake of the OG’, this retro version of the Challenger model uses the same combo of soft suede, shimmering fabric, and breathable mesh to stay period correct. Flex that 1970s running aesthetic while also making the most of the variable-width lacing system – which was revolutionary when it first hit the scene all those years ago.

Down below, the Waffle outsole delivers some serious Nike DNA, the distinctive design a product of co-founder Bill Bowerman’s endless quest for innovation. The story goes that Bowerman ‘borrowed’ the family waffle iron from his kitchen as part of his ongoing experimentation with footwear tread patterns to improve grip on the University of Oregon athletics track where he coached his running protégés. That same outsole design is currently enjoying something of a resurgence in 2021, including the introduction of a brand-new Nike silhouette: the Waffle One.

Pairs of this black, white and grey Nike Challenger OG are expected to hit Nike and selected Swoosh stockists very soon.
