The Nike Be True 2021 Collection Highlights New and Old ClassicsRelease: 15 June 2021
Nike officially started the Be True collection back in 2012 to bring more visibility to the LGBTQIA+ community in the way they knew best: limited edition sneakers and apparel. 2021’s range continues this annual tradition of Pride-themed releases, and features both classics from the vault plus contemporary favourites.
On the retro side of Be True things, Nike have decorated the Blazer Low with graduated stitch detailing on the Swoosh to correspond with the colours of the Rainbow Flag, representing the LGBTQIA+ community. This detail is repeated on the tongue label, adding some flair to an otherwise straightforward white leather upper with a light pink sole.
The recent Air Max Pre-Day also receives the Be True treatment via a rainbow gradient Swoosh atop a tonal blue suede and mesh upper. The React Infinity Run 2 is the performance model of the pack – its Flyknit upper readily rendered in rainbow threads, bolstered by a subtle gradient Swoosh outline.
Perhaps the most novel pair in this pack is the bespoke All Out Utility Slide, which resembles the popular Benassi Slide, but with added storage in the strap. This strap has a small patch whereby variations of the Pride Flag can be stuck to denote specific orientations.
The Nike Be True 2021 collection will release globally from June 15.
