There has always been a sizeable following of Nike’s retro basketball offerings, but the focus was undoubtedly intensified last year, thanks to the overwhelming success of The Last Dance. Among the sneakers featured in that popular documentary series was the Air More Uptempo, made famous by Scottie Pippen. Now the distinct Air-branded basketball boot is back in familiar red colours that channel Pippen’s Chicago Bulls livery.

However, long-time sneakerheads will remember this red, black and white colourway first appearing in the ‘Hoop Pack’ from 2005 (and again in 2017). In digging this edition out from the mid-2000s vault, Nike have also seen fit to release this Uptempo as a standalone sneaker.

The uppers are predominately red synthetic, with perforated detailing running throughout the midfoot and instep. This bold choice only complements arguably the model’s most distinct feature: the oversized ‘AIR’ lettering on both the medial and lateral sides of the shoes. Here, they’re glossed up in shiny black patent leather to attract extra attention. Some additional black accents line up nicely to these letters, and everywhere else is in stark white for super contrast. This, of course, all sits atop a multiple heel and forefoot Air units.

Nike will re-release this Air More Uptempo on April 16.
