While the Nike  Air Max 95’s signature layered upper gets its fair share of wild colour combos, sometimes when it just sticks to one base colour it makes just as loud a statement. Case in point: this stealth model that is covered in black, save for some slight touches of grey and orange. The monochrome base really lets those orange hits shine, as they sing from the branding hits and the visible Air unit.

The Air Max 95’s iconic design can be traced all the way back to a rainy early-90s day in Beaverton. The story goes that Nike designer Sergio Lozano was staring out his office window in search of inspiration, when the inclement weather prompted him to imagine the falling rain eroding the landscape to unearth the strata below. That concept of previously hidden layers resonated once more when Sergio later considered the anatomy of a foot – which features similarly layered muscle fibres and flesh under the skin. The combination of those two design cues helps to explain the famous gradient panels that dominate the AM95’s signature upper.

This black and orange rendition of the Air Max 95 is expected to hit stores very soon, so keep a close eye on Nike and selected Swoosh stockists.
