Adding to the recently revealed Air Max 97 ‘Energy Jelly’, Nike will also be dropping a women’s Air Max 90 that nods to the popular Japanese snack known as onigiri. The nori-wrapped triangular rice snacks are often found in mini mart coolers, and usually retail for less than 100 Yen (approximately $1).

The uppers feature a grey seaweed-like hue and texture, with red and blue pops of colour adding an eye-pleasing contrast to the darker tones. Down below, the light blue shade also appears on part of the midsole, as well as the outsole. Additionally, the mudguards are designed to mimic the snack’s familiar plastic wrapper, while the ‘Pull’ tongue tab and label provide another nod to the packaging. Completing the ensemble are insoles covered in rice graphics.

Peep all the official photos above, and look forward to the release of the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Rice Ball’ on March 19 at select retailers and Nike. At this stage, it’s unclear whether this will be a region-exclusive or global drop. We’ll let you know once details have been revealed.
