One of the worst-kept secrets of the past 12 months is the return of the legendary Nike Air Max 90 ‘Bacon’. Originally released in 2005 as a collaboration with the now-defunct Dave’s Quality Meat (better known as DQM), the food-themed sneaker has become increasingly rarer as the years have gone by. This remains the case for another two-ish weeks, until Nike bring back this delectable colourway, sans DQM.

The ‘Bacon’ was first slated to release for Air Max Day 2020 – now a distant memory – but a number of unsubstantiated delays pushed things back into a seeming state of limbo. Then, out of the blue, official confirmation came last week that Air Max Day 2021 – i.e. March 26 – is now the launch date.

ICYMI, the ‘Bacon’ AM90 is a fairly obvious translation of the fatty foodstuff in sneaker form. Featuring a layered look to represent the various sections of bacon, such as the skin and subcutaneous fat layer, a palette of tan, brown and red creates a tasty appearance. Complementary details include matching lace options, and even arch inserts inadvertently resembling pork cheeks! Previous imagery depicted the shoes packaged in shrink wrap, but that may have been for promo only.

In any case, bring home the ‘Bacon’ on March 26 from selected retailers and Nike direct.
