The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Inspires a New Nike SB Dunk Mid
Now that Dunk-mania is back in vogue, Beaverton’s skateboarding division are bringing back their often overlooked mid-cut model as a striking tribute to the 1996 signature shoe for MLB All-Star Ken Griffey Jr: the Air Griffey Max 1.
Staying faithful to the same Fresh Water/Black/White colourway as ‘The Kid’s’ debut Tracy Teague–designed sneaker, the homage continues through to the detailing of the white Swoosh on the toebox, and embroidered velcro ankle strap which swaps out Griffey’s ‘24’ for ‘58’ (SB).
With the SB revival gaining traction, it’s great to see the brand getting back to some of the USPs that made the fledgling skate division so interesting to begin with, such as skate shop exclusives and designs created from interesting reference points.
Current whispers point to a release in April.
