The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 is pushing on with its 25th birthday celebrations, emerging in an alternate take on the ‘Fresh Water’ scheme released earlier this year. Last seen in 2016, this version is slightly bolder than the first, the colourway adopting the palette of its namesake Ken Griffey Jr’s Seattle Mariners.

The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 debuted in 1996 and was designed as a homage to the baseball Hall of Famer. Noticeably inspired by the cleats that Griffey Jr. wore on the diamond during his glittering baseball career, the silhouette quickly became a popular cross training option when that whole phenomenon was taking the world by storm back in the mid- to late-90s.

As part of this year’s anniversary releases, we’ve seen the aforementioned lighter ‘Fresh Water’ scheme, an undeniably retro ‘Varsity Royal’ and, just this week, a strong ‘Wheat’ offering. Here’s hoping there are a few more colourways to land before the year is done.

Pairs of this Air Griffey Max 1 ‘Fresh Water’ are expected to Nike and selected Swoosh retailers very soon. Don’t strike out on these!
