The New Balance 878 Gets a Monochromatic Makeover

Last year, New Balance concentrated on reaching into their archive, pulling lesser known silhouettes out and resurrecting them with psycho collaborations and heater general release colourways. The NB2002 received critical acclaim after Salehe Bembury touched it, the NB992 had the year of a lifetime, and the NB550 received that Aimé treatment. Next up is the New Balance 878, which in 2019 received tasty link-ups with size? and END. This year, they’ve started things off with two monochromatic makeups that are expected to whet appetites yet again for the silhouette.

Both pairs have arrived with mesh bases, before clean suede overlays deliver a tonal look. One pair offers an all-over darker grey, while the other opts for a lighter grey hue. The first keeps the grey flavour going down to the midsole, while the latter goes for an off-white creamy midsole unit that no doubt is playing into the vintage pre-worn trend. 878 has been embroidered on the lateral heel, and plastered on the tongue, completing the vibe.
