The New Balance 850 is Back for the First Time Since '96
Release: 29 November 2019

Designed by Stephanie Howard, the New Balance 850 was heralded as the ultimate all-rounder – so much so, it was even labelled as unisex. It was a sneaker that broke the mould, in more ways than one, and now it’s back for the first time since its memorable 1996 debut.

Hitting the market as a runner for the younger generation, the 850 slides seamlessly into ‘dad shoe’ realm with its long overdue renaissance. The retro graphic panelling is retained, as is its most infamous feature: ironically, a side panel without New Balance’s iconic ‘N’ branding. It was the brand’s first runner to remove the classic insignia, but it isn’t entirely bereft of branding, with the familiar ‘NB’ logo hitting the tongue and heel.

The OG palette of black, white and blue dresses the suede and leather upper overlays, sure to slot right into contemporary crep considerations. Meanwhile, a white midsole with black outsole is another welcome archetypal addition.

A radical rebirth we can definitely get around, the New Balance ML850YSC is available now from Hype DC.
