The New Balance 57/40 ‘Decades Clash’ Pack is a Chronological CollisionRelease: 26 August 2021 Style Code: M5740DD1

The New Balance 57/40 is a chronological collision of the brand’s design and colour language from over the years, which has been perfectly captured in the ‘Decades Clash’ pack. Ditching the tried and true greyscale that’s long been the brand’s signature shade, NB instead revisit a vibrant spectrum of colour that saturated their back catalogue, particularly from the 1970s to 1990s.
Dropping as a quartet of two men’s and women’s colourways each, the ‘Decades Clash’ pack takes full advantage of NB’s rich hue history across the 57/40’s intricately layered – and 574-inspired – design. One of the men’s options is submerged in the rich blue of the NB 320 from the 1970s, accented with strongly contrasting teal and orange hits. The other makeup quickly visits the M1300JP, then bumps up the bold factor massively with servings of fruity purples and blues reminiscent of the NB 660 that brightened up the 90s.
The women’s colourways are even more kaleidoscopic, as they pick out summery splashes of baby blue and citrus orange for one option. This is joined by a searing cyan and neon pink presentation. Both editions again draw from three decades of NB heritage running.
Double-stacked midsoles are becoming an emergent feature on modern sneakers, and are a key design cue of the 57/40. Its wavy and flowing top layer is an organic continuation of 90s NB designs, namely the 850, and is shaded in complementary tones to the upper. The lower chamfered foam layer nods back to its 574 ancestry, which is then connected to an oversized rubber tread. Not only is this reflective of the oversized ethos informing contemporary ideas, it’s also a deep cut back to the 574’s OG trail tread. Talk about a ‘Decades Clash’!
While time can occasionally feel like an arbitrary concept, what’s for sure is that the New Balance 57/40 ‘Decades Clash’ pack is out right now directly from New Balance!
