New York streetwear and lifestyle brand Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance recently revived the 550, a vintage basketball trainer that sat in the NB archive gathering dust for a number of years. After first hitting shelves in 1989, it hadn’t really been touched again until this year. Impossible to find information on, the New Balance 550 was everything we would ever want out of a vintage basketball sneaker – chunky, minimal, and aesthetically pleasing. Brought back to life by the ALD crew, it boasted record sell-out times with many catching that dreaded L. Thankfully, it seems as though the sneaker gods were listening to our prayers, because the New Balance 550 will be receiving a wider GR release!

From what we can tell, two pairs are being prepped to drop. Both have been composed using mostly-white leather, with perforations run down the medial and lateral sides. Pops of colour, one red and the other blue, have been scattered throughout to highlight the NB branding and 550 scripted along the the sides and heels. Subtle black pops carry through that vintage aesthetic, while the clean tongue logo completes the look.

In terms of release details, we can confirm that the New Balance 550 in both red and blue will be hitting New Balance’s Japan store on December 1. A global release, however, hasn’t been confirmed, but we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop if that changes.
