The New Balance 2002R ‘Protection Pack’ Gets Exclusive Stateside Drop at Extra ButterRelease: 14 August 2021
New Balance released the well-received 2002R ‘Protection Pack’ a couple of months ago in Europe, leaving US-based sneakerheads thirsting for pairs. In a fortunate turn of events, NY retailer Extra Butter have been able to secure a tight allocation of this coveted trio, and they’ve created a capsule collection in celebration.
The 2002R has been one of the greatest NB comeback stories in recent memory, with the reconceptualised model meeting widespread acclaim across its collaborative and general releases. This ‘Protection Pack’ is an example of the latter, the unique rough edge finishing and tonal colourways is supposedly a nod to age eroding the 2002R’s aesthetics drawn from the early 2000s. Complementing this dark grey, grey and white pack is a selection of EB’s private label garments, displaying Y2K-inspired graphics and motifs. Furthermore, a 45-minute mixtape of 2000s tracks selected by EB and Darling Chuck, which has been burnt on a CD for in-store customers of this NB release.
‘This NB 2002R model is just an example of new and innovative ways to cater exclusively to our consumer,’ said Louis W. Colon III, SVP of Brand & Business Development at Extra Butter.
The New Balance 2002R ‘Protection Pack’ will release in store at Extra Butter’s Lower East Side and Long Island City locations, followed by an online raffle release via their website and the Extra Butter Mobile App the next day.
