With model nomenclature that figuratively runs into the thousands, it might make sense that the New Balance 1700 occasionally gets lost in the mix of numbers and names. However, as it’s been proven time and time again for well over 20 years, the underrated NB runner has a second home in Japan. Which is where this new grey colourway is releasing soon.

The NB 1700 first released in 1999 and prefaced the massive technological leaps the company would make into the new millennium. A trifecta of ABZORB, ENCAP and C-CAP cushioning and support systems came as standard to offer a plush and smooth ride, joined to an equally luxurious leather and mesh upper. After all, the 1700 was NB’s Made In USA flagship at the time.

While the 2021 remake of the 1700 is now manufactured in a different factory, there is still plenty of care being taken to ensure it’s sympathetic to the original versions. Last year’s Japan-exclusive ‘retro’ of the Limited Edition grey OG was proof of that, and this new drop continues that fastidious trend. Light grey suede and mesh joins minimal white accents for a very clean finish. Peep that perforated suede arch panel!

This New Balance 1700 releases on May 14 via New Balance Japan.
