One way to prevent denim jeans bleeding blue dye onto your shoes is if they’re already blue in the first place. While that probably wasn’t a top-of-mind consideration here, it’s one beneficial feature of the FDMTL x Coststore x New Balance 2002.

FDMTL are known for their indigo-drenched denim and textile creations that have occasionally dipped into the sneaker world. While Coststore are a Shenzhen-based boutique who are leading the sneaker and streetwear scene in China. These two entities have been enlisted by New Balance to rework the recently revived 2002R model, as already seen by the likes of Salehe Bembury and Invincible.

FDMTL and Coststore’s take is the deepest yet, with a complete material rework in indigo blue sashiko textile and suede across the upper, with copious white contrast stitching covering the heel counter and tongue. Even the midsole has been dipped in all-blue for a tonal finish, emphasising the highly textured surface. Co-branded shoelaces and custom shoebox packaging complete this special project.

There’s no hard release date on this colab, but Coststore are saying it’ll be a mid-November arrival that at this stage will be exclusive to themselves and FDMTL. Here’s hoping these get a wider drop!
