Closer Look: The Familia x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘First Avenue’
The Nike SB Dunk Low continues to exert its colossal presence in 2021, the reworked 1980s basketball silhouette seeing plenty of attention from Dutch artist Parra, enigmatic skate label Stingwater, and American skateboarder Paul Rodriguez.
Familia are now jumping-in on the action, the Minneapolis-based skate shop of course blowing-up the sneaker scene with the ‘Reverse Skunk’ last year.
Dubbed the ‘First Avenue’, this SB Dunk pays homage to the legendary performer, Prince, the silhouette draped in an aesthetic reminiscent of the Purple Rain LP. Also taking cues from the Minneapolis music club First Avenue (where Prince played many shows), the SB Dunk is manufactured with mixed material black uppers – designed to mimic the brickwork of the famous music venue.
A star-perforated toe box alludes to the 500-plus artists that have performed at the venue, while a white star logo also makes its way to the heel. A 3M reflective Swoosh adds some iridescent styling to the collaboration, while purple laces again allude to Prince’s seminal 1984 album.
A new in-hand look and video has just touched down courtesy of njssryda, and showcases details we haven’t seen yet, such as the insole graphics and branding under the tongue.
Originally expected to release in 2020 (to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the venue), the Familia x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘First Avenue’ is now scheduled to release sometime in 2021.
