The Balenciaga Runner is Not for the Faint-HeartedRelease: 21 October 2021
There’s no stopping Balenciaga in 2021. Under the tutelage of Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga continue to go from strength to strength, outfitting Kim Kardashian for her SNL debut, curating Kanye West’s Donda merchandise and even entering the exclusive, animated world of The Simpsons.
Headlined of course by the Triple S, Balenciaga’s footwear also continues to sell through the roof, their latest Balenciaga Runner looks to extend the lifespan of the chunky sneaker phenomenon.
Recently bolstered by a Justin Bieber-led marketing campaign, the Balenciaga Runner has now appeared in a rainbow iteration sure to divide the luxury market. The Maison Margiela-esque design slapped with various kinds of DIY stylings is manufactured with a mix of nylon and mesh (no leather), the faux-worn aesthetic is most notable on the toe box and sole unit, while sizing on the toe looks like it’s been added last-minute.
Extraneous glue on the midsole alludes to the creative direction of Balenciaga more broadly, Demna’s provocative designs invariably winning the high fashion sweepstakes in 2021.
The Balenciaga Runner retails for $1,150. Keen to ride the rollicking Balenciaga bandwagon? Check out their latest gear for the video game, Fortnite.
