are still ramping up their releases in 2021, well past their 30th anniversary last year – and that’s not a bad thing! Up next are two metallic-tinged editions that are conspicuously part of the ‘Medal Pack’, probably coinciding with a big global event that’s scheduled to happen over in ASICS’ home nation of Japan. Wonder what that could be…
Anyway, these GL3s are gloriously gaudy with their combo of synthetic leather and nylon mesh. The silver pair isn’t just for the first-placed losers – its bullet-like sheen certainly adds a futuristic edge to the 30-year-old model, which has aged particularly well. There is also some nice textural depth thanks to the multiple materials used on the upper, and the ice outsole only adds to the complexity. Of course, this is once the gaze looks beyond the aforementioned Tin Man finish.
Similarly, the gold pair is a glitzy affair because it’s [insert Goldmember quote here]. There is a bit more going on here though, thanks to the bold black contrast lining, laces and outsole. Black reflective dots also add some hidden shine. Additionally, the stark white midsole breaks up the gilt-heavy affair upstairs, and is a breath of fresh GEL.
