The adidas Micropacer is Still Future Fresh

There was a lot of foresight when adidas decided to include a built-in pedometer with their flagship Micropacer runner back in 1984, for it opened the floodgates for electronics to co-exist with sneakers. While features like time and distance covered may be relatively ‘dial-up’ compared to the self-lacing sneakers of today, the Micropacer’s metallic upper and Metropolis costume prop still makes it look like something from the very distant future.

For example, this new colourway may be officially known as ‘Core Black’, but its lustrous synthetic finish gives it an industrial gunmetal grey look; something Robocop’s evil twin would rock. Lurid green accents on the contrast midsole blocks (which, by the way, partially inspired the NMD’s distinct units) loosely links to adi’s latest 4D-printed soles, again adding to the sci-fi vibe. The matching pedometer inserted into the left shoe’s shroud is an excellent detail, and don’t forget about the stash pocket on the right foot either. All in all, this somewhat stealthy colourway with its neon clash, sweaty sealed upper, and retrospectively rudimentary midsole, shows adidas have wholeheartedly embraced the Micropacer’s post-performance status.

This new colourway of the adidas Micropacer is scheduled to release on December 10 in the antipodean paradise known as New Zealand; a global release is likely imminent.
