Terry Fox’s Iconic adidas Orion Is Back

In one of the most meaningful sneaker releases of 2025, adidas Canada is set to reissue the Orion – Terry Fox’s iconic running shoe – on July 3 to honour the 45th anniversary of the athlete's legendary Marathon of Hope. First released in 1980, the navy blue Orion runners carried Terry thousands of kilometres across Canada, turning his solo mission into a national movement and a lasting legacy.

Reissued only once before in 2020 – where it sold out in minutes – this 2025 drop retains the OG retro charm with a few special details. Gold embroidery spells out ‘Terry Fox’ on each pair, while commemorative laces and the classic Three Stripe design complete the tribute. Retailing at $145 CAD, the shoes will be available exclusively via adidas.ca, with 100 per cent of proceeds going directly to support cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation.

Terry Fox was just 21 when he set out on his cross-country run in 1980, aiming to raise awareness and funds for cancer research after losing his right leg to osteogenic sarcoma. Running with a prosthetic limb, he covered 5,373 kilometres in 143 days before the cancer spread to his lungs and forced him to stop. He passed away in 1981, but his determination and selflessness sparked a legacy that remains four decades on.

‘Terry’s legacy continues to inspire Canadians and people around the world,’ said Fred Fox, Terry’s brother. ‘We hope these shoes remind people that it’s up to all of us to help finish the marathon Terry started.’

This release coincides with preparations for the 45th annual Terry Fox Run, which takes place on September 14, 2025. Participants who register and gather 45 sponsors by September 15 will be entered to win a pair of the limited-edition Orions.
