Teddy Santis Teases the Return of the New Balance 992
founder and MADE in USA Creative Director has been back in the Boston-based brand’s kitchen, and this time he’s been cooking up the return of the . While the silhouette has been noticeably absent from the past few collections, its return is attention-grabbing to say the least, as the initial offering teased on Santis’s story sees the shoe come in a bold yellow and black colourway.
Having originally launched in 2006 as part of the MADE in USA offering, the NB992 soon became known for being favoured by Steve Jobs, and later became one of the defining silhouettes of the ‘normcore’ movement. The NB992’s subsequent success was also partially down to the sneaker’s accessibility and comfort – it came in a huge variety of widths and sizes and also saw the introduction of New Balance’s ABZORB shock absorption system.
While the 992 remains a quintessential dad shoe at heart, Santis’s latest colourway isn’t for the faint-hearted. Working atop the shoe’s usual construction of suede, leather and mesh, the sneaker boasts a mix of yellow tones and white and black accents.
