The New Balance 992 continues its strong collaborative run in 2020, having already worked with a top cachet in Packer, WTAPS, and JJJJound. This time, Paris-based Studio FY7 raise the bar further by putting an ebony and ivory spin on the flagship runner.

Building on the 992's standard material configuration of pig suede and mesh is a colourway that's anything but the usual. There's heavy emphasis on sandy shades of beige that comprise the majority of the uppers, but key sections are coloured black for strong contrast. This comes though on the tongue, toe box, and ankle collar. The midsole goes the same route, with the rear half dipped in black, while the forefoot stays white. Custom touches include FY7 tongue labels in place of the regular 992.

There is more to this colab than a strong colourway. According to Younes Bendjima, the model-turned-designer behind Studio FY7, the beige refers to the sandy dunes of his native Algeria, and the black contrast nods to the stark architecture in the city of Ghardaïa. A reminder of home, where ever you may be in the world.

The Studio FY7 x New Balance 992 releases exclusively on October 22 via Studio FY7's website.
