Spike Lee Is Releasing A Limited Edition Air Jordan 1
Spike Lee has revealed he will be releasing an ‘extremely limited’ Air Jordan 1 this weekend. The Jay in question commemorates Lee’s character Mars Blackmon, who he played in his first feature film, She’s Gotta Have it, and who famously stated, ‘It’s gotta be the shoes’ in a later Jordan commercial.
Detailing comes by way of a ‘1/3’ on the tongue, a reference to Mars competing as one of three love interests in the film. The character's face – iconic for its Brooklyn cycling cap and glasses – keeps an eye on things from its position on the heel. The shoes will come with She’s Gotta Have it merch, and – amazingly – Lee is even going to whip out a silver sharpie and number each pair. This is the stuff of Jordan-release legend, so if you’re a Jay fan but can’t be there on the day, now’s a good time to start calling in favours.
